The first printed map of the Pacific Ocean. An important map by Ortelius and less common than his world or America maps. The Great Unknown Southern Continent encompasses Terra del Fuego and reaches New Guinea which is depicted as an island. A caption at upper left refers to the Jesuits. The image of Magellan's ship the Victoria is accompanied by a caption praising his deeds.
