A classic image of Mars unleashing the dogs of war. On either side of the title block are the figures of a nun, and a man dressed in armor. These are portraits of the regents of the Spanish Netherlands, known as the Archdukes. Isabella Clara Eugenia was the Infanta who married her Austrian Hapsburg cousin, the Archduke Albert. Appointed regents by her father they ruled jointly from 1598 until Albert's death in 1621. After that Isabella put on the habit of a nun and ruled alone until her death in 1633. The portraits are after Peter Paul Rubens.
