[Arctic] Fenning & Colyear, View of the Racehorse and Carcass, August 7th, 1773, when inclosed in the Ice in Lat. 80º 37 N. London, 1780. 6 x 8½. BW. VG with ms. notation upper right margin. Ice-bound vessels form the backdrop as sailors pull smaller craft across the frozen waste. An incident in an Arctic voyage led by Capt. J. C. Phipp, discoverer of Walden Island. The Carcass was a bomb vessel later converted to a survey ship. Horatio Nelson (the victor of Trafalgar) served aboard her as a midshipman on Phipps' expedition.
