Three horizontal panels cover more than six blocks along "the great street of our continent," past many businesses such as the Astor House, Tiffany Young & Ellis, Chemical Bank, "The Original Sewing Machine E Howe Jr.," a much larger Singer's Sewing Machines, and half a dozen Daguerreotype galleries. In the foreground are crowds of people strolling or in horse-drawn carriages.
