[N. Hemisphere; S. Hemisphere] Allard/Covens & Mortier, Planisphaerii Coelestis Hemisphaerium Septentrionale... and... Meridionale, Amsterdam, circa 1759. Each approximately 20 x 23 with 16 diameter hemisphere displaying the constellations. Hand-colored. Each with slight centerfold discoloration. Engraved panels of devices and calculations. The northern leaf has a small upper margin, corners strengthened with archival tissue, and a 2" tear with an old paper repair. A pin hole near the center slightly affects one letter in a caption, else VG. Southern leaf VG. SOLD

Two 6" diameter hemispheres depict Christian constellations (after Schiller) on the northern leaf. The southern leaf displays images of the surface of the sun and the moon, representations of other planets and demonstrates the solar eclipse of 1706. Warner, Sky Explored, p. 2, 1A & 1B, issue 1a.
