[East Indies] Mercator-Hondius, Insulae Indiae Orientalis... Amsterdam, 1606 (1630). 13 x 18. Full original color. Faint centerfold darkening, else Fine. Dramatic sea fight between a Dutch and an English ship reflects their rivalry for commercial dominance. A caption explains New Guinea is named after the Guinea in Africa because of perceived similarities in coastline. On the south coast of Java a note marks Drake's landfall.
