From the Amsterdam edition of Henry Popple's map of the British Empire, first published in London in 1733. The first large-scale map of North America, this intricately engraved and influential work was copied throughout Europe. Popple was Clerk to the Board of Trade, and also Under-Treasurer to Queen Caroline. Schwartz & Ehrenberg, pp. 151-2.
